Thanks for visiting my corner of the internet. It’s a little drafty in here and things change quite a bit, so please bring your favorite adventure cape and BE PREPARED.
I write fantasy and science fiction stories. No, I’m not published. Meaning, I haven’t finished my greatest works – yet, but I do have a few short stories here and there, and for a few years, I helped put together short story anthologies for the good folks over on SFFWorld.com.
On this blog, I used to natter on about the craft of writing genre fiction. If you are so inclined to read my articles on the subject, check out this page where I list the most pertinent posts. But be warned! I really don’t know what I’m doing. Like you, I have stories in my head and I do my best to write them down, but this is just a hobby. My day job is making maps.
So, what will you find here?
Stuff. Mostly just my fiction, updates on my progress writing said fiction, and maybe an errant post or two about life.

I recently downloaded “The End – Visions of Apocalypse” to my Kindle, but cannot read the last story in the anthology. “Empty Nest” is too small to read on my Kindle screen. There’s a note at the end that says I should email the editor to get a PDF version emailed to me, but I couldn’t find the editor’s email address. Any advice?

I was recently ‘told off’ by a blogger (not a follower I might add), who said my style of ‘welcome’ note was very much against blogging etiquette. Hmm, well I hope not to cause offence, but as you volunteered to become a follower of Uncle Spike’s Adventures, I just wanted to catch up and say “thank you, and that I appreciate your ‘follow’ as there are so many interesting and entertaining blogs out there.
Blogging since June 2013, my aim is to deliver an eclectic offering of posts, from my ‘point n shoot’ attempts at basic photography, to the sharing of my travel adventures over the decades, as well as day to day happenings here on our farm in Turkey. Oh, plus a few observations, opinions and lighter-hearted stuff thrown in for good measure.
I normally keep to a couple of posts a day, maybe 3-4 at weekends if I have something special to share. But if you are at a loose end one day, maybe you’ll enjoy trawling through some of my older stuff too. I have added plenty of categories to help in said digging process. That’s not me trying to be pushy or ‘spamming’, but just want you to know what I’m all about.

I had it up for years. I think I changed it sometime last year. I guess, it was time for a new foot-portrait. Funny, my avatar is a pumpkin I carved back in 2010. I never change that, so I guess I’m always celebrating Halloween! 🙂

first comment of 2017. here, that is. seriously: I will (somewhat) gladly critique/edit whatever SciFi you’ve got comin’ down the pike. I say this, here, now, as I have a niece who is a published fantasy writer (won some sort of award) and her aunt and I bought/read her “compendium” and the story is neat, compelling, the setting is well-done, but often THE WRITING IS “CLUNKY”. I gnash my teeth at it! (doesn’t do any good) — I offered to edit just one chapter of her next (yes, it’s in progess) and … sigh, I shouldn’t be surprised that she did not readily take me up on the offer. so … if you’re writing is as bad as mine usually is, THERE WILL BE RED INK. THERE WILL BE DOUGHNUTS. THE SUN HAS A GOOD CHANCE OF RISING TOMORROW. IT ALSO HAS A GOOD CHANCE OF WRITHING TOMORROW. I’ll stop before I …
