About

Thanks for visiting my corner of the internet. It’s a little drafty in here and things change quite a bit, so please bring your favorite adventure cape and BE PREPARED.

Painted Feet
My feet (because another head shot of an author is just soooo boring).

I write fantasy and science fiction stories. No, I’m not published. Meaning, I haven’t finished my greatest works – yet, but I do have a few short stories here and there, and for a few years, I helped put together short story anthologies for the good folks over on SFFWorld.com.

On this blog, I used to natter on about the craft of writing genre fiction. If you are so inclined to read my articles on the subject, check out this pageย where I list the most pertinent posts. But be warned! I really don’t know what I’m doing. Like you, I have stories in my head and I do my best to write them down, but this is just a hobby. My day job is making maps.

So, what will you find here?

Stuff. Mostly just my fiction, updates on my progress writing said fiction, and maybe an errant post or two about life.

Enjoy.

Oh, if you are curious what I sound like, check out this podcast on Michell Plested’s Get Published podcast (#124).

    1. Eh, nothing a couple of bucks and a trip down to your local novelty shop can’t fix. ๐Ÿ˜‰

      Thanks for stopping by.

    1. Your pictures are great and you write about a subject I love – bike riding! Keep up the good work and thanks for stopping by. ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. I love bats!! I’m so glad you commented on the Parking Lot Confessional today so I could arrive here and see the pic of the bat on your foot. Happiness abounds.

  2. I have a good friend who lives in Santa Rosa. He’s a musician and owns a company called North Bay Graphics. Small world!

    1. It is a small world! I’ll have to visit his store. I’m relatively new to the area, so I haven’t come across his shop, but I’ll make a point of looking it up. Cheers!

  3. Well, I’m nowhere near you spatially, but we’re apparently nearby in the domain of our respective jobs. Which are spatially-related. That’s ironic, or something. I look forward to reading your stuff.

  4. ‘Love your site. I’m looking forward to reading more of your stories. Also, thanks for the comment you left on “The Interpreter” — I appreciate it! ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Thank you ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m trying to get better at flash fiction (and after “Zygote,” I certainly can’t get much worse, lol). Anyways, my website / “blog” is my drawing board, and putting a new piece up every week. Thanks again for the inspiration this week.

    1. I look forward to more of your fiction. (I would comment on your site, but it doesn’t appear to let me unless I’m commenting on a specific post…might want to open up comments on your About page? Just a thought.)

      1. Thanks for the suggestion! My site’s a work in progress, as you probably noticed. I especially need to update / rearrange the “fantasy,” “science fiction,” and “links” pages. By the way, I don’t mean to be crowding up your About section with these replies… not sure how else to reply. Just delete the superfluous ones if you want I guess. Okay, back to work ~ see you at sffworld.com ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. I recently downloaded “The End – Visions of Apocalypse” to my Kindle, but cannot read the last story in the anthology. “Empty Nest” is too small to read on my Kindle screen. There’s a note at the end that says I should email the editor to get a PDF version emailed to me, but I couldn’t find the editor’s email address. Any advice?

    1. (Ah, the many things I did wrong on this ebook…)

Hello Linda! Thank you so much for taking the time to search me out. I thought I had included my email in the introduction, or in the title page, but I’m sure, now, that I didn’t. I will forward that story to you momentarily. Again, thanks for asking! ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. Hi,

I have the kindle version of “The End” -Could you send me the pdf version of “Mother and Child?” Thank you.

  8. Been loving The End….sure would love to read Trista Ward’s Mother &Child, but screen too small. Any chance I can still get a pdf of the story? That would be awesome!

  9. Helloโ€ฆ

I was recently โ€˜told offโ€™ by a blogger (not a follower I might add), who said my style of โ€˜welcomeโ€™ note was very much against blogging etiquette. Hmm, well I hope not to cause offence, but as you volunteered to become a follower of Uncle Spikeโ€™s Adventures, I just wanted to catch up and say โ€œthank you, and that I appreciate your โ€˜followโ€™ as there are so many interesting and entertaining blogs out there.

Blogging since June 2013, my aim is to deliver an eclectic offering of posts, from my โ€˜point n shootโ€™ attempts at basic photography, to the sharing of my travel adventures over the decades, as well as day to day happenings here on our farm in Turkey. Oh, plus a few observations, opinions and lighter-hearted stuff thrown in for good measure.

I normally keep to a couple of posts a day, maybe 3-4 at weekends if I have something special to share. But if you are at a loose end one day, maybe youโ€™ll enjoy trawling through some of my older stuff too. I have added plenty of categories to help in said digging process. Thatโ€™s not me trying to be pushy or โ€˜spammingโ€™, but just want you to know what Iโ€™m all about.

Thanks again and hope you have a great dayโ€ฆ

  10. Hi, thanks for the comment you posted on how you liked the shadows & the bright lights on the limes I shot. I couldn’t reply back to the comment. Says there’s some error. Thanks again for the comment ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. and … I yoosta edit a newsletter and instead of PEOPLE’S HEADS, would show a pixure of their elbow (and of course i’d specify WHICH elbow). it didn’t go over very well and regrettably, perhaps, I quit doing that and went back to heads.
in a future life, heh, i’ll show BUTTS.

      1. I had it up for years. I think I changed it sometime last year. I guess, it was time for a new foot-portrait. Funny, my avatar is a pumpkin I carved back in 2010. I never change that, so I guess I’m always celebrating Halloween! ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. first comment of 2017. here, that is. seriously: I will (somewhat) gladly critique/edit whatever SciFi you’ve got comin’ down the pike. I say this, here, now, as I have a niece who is a published fantasy writer (won some sort of award) and her aunt and I bought/read her “compendium” and the story is neat, compelling, the setting is well-done, but often THE WRITING IS “CLUNKY”. I gnash my teeth at it! (doesn’t do any good) — I offered to edit just one chapter of her next (yes, it’s in progess) and … sigh, I shouldn’t be surprised that she did not readily take me up on the offer. so … if you’re writing is as bad as mine usually is, THERE WILL BE RED INK. THERE WILL BE DOUGHNUTS. THE SUN HAS A GOOD CHANCE OF RISING TOMORROW. IT ALSO HAS A GOOD CHANCE OF WRITHING TOMORROW. I’ll stop before I …
