No longer writing or editing

Well, not exactly. But it has been a long time since I’ve written anything. And our last anthology (this one) felt like pulling teeth. My heart is just not into it. 2020 has seen a lot of changes (mostly bad), so I figured making a formal announcement about the death of my writing aspirations would be fitting. I’ll still be around. Maybe in a year or two I’ll be back. But no promises. Until then, write the next great American SF/F novel for me. (By the way, I am reading for Mythaxis – a long standing online zine that is now managed by This Dude.)

  1. Hi, sorry to hear this. Though with the way the world has been the last few months, understandable.

  2. I’m so sorry to read this! But I empathize, so hard. It’s not easy at the best of times, and these aren’t even in the same solar system as the best of times. Take the time you need, try to do things that make you happy, and I hope the mojo comes back. (For both of us.) *huge virtual socially distant hugs*

  3. Sorry to hear this; I for one have always enjoyed your writing and felt you were way to hard on yourself. I do admit that life has been a big struggle lately making the creative process hard. I hope to see you back some day.

    1. Thanks, Rob! It is definitely a struggle to balance work, life, and hobbies. I just don’t want to feel like I am failing all the time anymore. I hope you are doing well.

  4. Hey, Nila! Although I’m sorry to hear that you’ve shelved your aspirations, I was still really happy to receive your blog and have the chance to reconnect. I can certainly understand why your choice might be necessary. In future years, I suspect 2020 will become a curse word.

I’m glad you’re still involved in some aspect of writing and hope you get a chance to return to it. The last story I read from you really impressed me. I believe all the hard work paid off and that the quality of your writing is stellar. It will hold you in good stead in any profession. I hope for a chance to read more from you.

      1. HI again. Thanks. I am still writing, though, a few years ago, I decided to stop writing short fiction. I felt that trying to do both short and long was becoming counter-productive. Now, I’ve completed a few novels, completely rewritten a few others, and am now, finally, actually feeling ready to go further.

      2. Wow! That’s incredible. I hear ya that the two forms are very different. And maybe it is counter-productive to try both… Hmmm… Something to think about. But that’s awesome you are ready to move forward! Have you approached agents yet?

  5. Hi. Sorry I’m slow to reply–I’m spending a lot of time out in the garden these days. No, I haven’t approached agents yet. I haven’t done my research on that front. That’s next on my list, but I figure, given what’s happening out there, it’s probably not a rush.

  6. You know girl, like me you have been very absent from the social scene with all that is going on. Just saying I hear very little from your corner. Anyway, with your help, my book is finally published.
