Happy Monday,
It’s been awhile since I posted some links, so…why not?
Politics
With all the Republican presidential debates, political bias is getting thick enough to gag on. Are you forming your political opinions based on facts or feelings? Check out this political bias quiz and let me know if you scored better than I did (27%, the lower the number the better). H/T Cubik Rube.
Characters
Are you a fan of George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series? Then head on over to Rinn Read’s latest post on Femme Fatales and decide which of Martin’s complex female characters are your favorites. Or do you think Martin does them all a disservice?
For what it is worth, Arya Stark rocks and I would pick Brienne of Tarth to be on my team any day.
Validation
It’s always nice to come across something that just reminds you it is okay to be you. Click through here and no need to thank me.
That’s it from my feeds. What links have you been following lately?
Interesting test! “On a scale of 0-100%, your total political bias was 19.44%. Your score suggests you are less biased than about 75% of other test takers. 50% of people get a score between 23% and 58%. The average score is 40.82%”
I question everything; as far as I am concerned there is no such thing as “received wisdom” and nothing should be protected from the challenge to back up a claim.
Great score! I agree that we need to question everything. It would be nice to be able to take a statement at face value, but even then our own biases could paint that statement in a light other than what was intended (if anything was intended). It is definitely hard to overcome.
I think identity politics is becoming like religion in a way; people are shaping their views based on their political persuasion and labels and ignoring evidence because they don’t want to go against the tide of their labels. and it is prone to group-think “I am a A (black / socialist / Muslim / feminist / disabled person / homosexual / whatever label you give yourself) therefore I think B about situation C”. It’s as common amongst politically left as it is amongst the right. Nobody is immune.
