On foofaraws and such

Someone done gone and gave me a foofaraw. 😮

No, that’s not a disease. Nor, sadly, is it a yummy pastry. Though that would be nice right about now, wouldn’t it?

I got a wonderful thing last week from this gal. She happened upon my blog and thought I deserved the Versatile Blogger Award. She’s a former park ranger living in Idaho Falls, Idaho, blogging about her mental bling-bling. Check out this page to learn all about foofaraws.

Thank you, Ms. Foofaraw!

Since I got one of these things before, I’m aware of what happens next, but let’s review the rules.

  • Nominate 15 fellow bloggers for The Versatile Blogger Award
  • Add an image of the Versatile Blogger Award
  • In the same post, thank the blogger who nominated you in a post with a link back to their blog
  • In the same post, share 7 completely random pieces of information about yourself
  • In the same post, include this set of rules
  • Inform each nominated blogger of their nomination by posting a comment on each of their blogs

Here are the fifteen bloggers I would like to nominate today (by the way, this is a little random):

  1. Cubik’s Rube – for some skeptical straight talk
  2. Something New Please – for some strange stories with even stranger pictures (one of my favorites)
  3. The Dark Word – young, aspiring author
  4. Modicum of Talent, Flashes of Brilliance – a great indie-writer making her way in this world
  5. The Problem with Young People Today – for an occasional laugh
  6. Procrastin8or’s Blog – another aspiring author from the other side of the pond with site reviews that are helpful to writers
  7. Gaping Whole – great, insightful blog with a northern (Canada – yes, that is another country) perspective
  8. Flickr Comments by FrizzText – for some amazing photos
  9. Stewartry – for great book reviews and random thoughts
  10. Astonishing India – for a taste of India
  11. Learning the Magic of Words – another aspiring author with some fun poetry and writing advice as he learns it
  12. Moderately Extraordinary – for some interesting views on self-publishing and the odd review or two
  13. One Minion’s Opinion – for some more skeptical straight talk
  14. Nature’s Place – ooooohh, the pictures!  Those gorgeous pictures…
  15. Love Thy Bike – for all the awesome bike stories and pictures

Now, I’m gonna break the rules, and not go over to bug you all that I have given you this award. Why? Well…I kind of see these things as a potential annoyance.  I know this is supposed to be a way to point your readers to other bloggers and get folks visiting sites they wouldn’t otherwise, but, honestly, it’s also a bit too much like the dreaded chain letter.

Remember those?

I’m sure they still circulate, but I haven’t gotten one in a long time. Maybe I stopped receiving them because I broke the golden rule and never passed them on. 🙄

Anyway, I do appreciate the gesture of an award, but I in no way want to annoy others. So, if you see this and you are on the list, please feel free to accept the burden award or not. Completely up to you.

With that, I leave you seven random (and untrue) things about myself.

  1. I’ve orbited the earth…twice.
  2. I have boils under each arm that produce a liquid surprisingly like transmission fluid.
  3. On a visit to the Buckingham Palace, I ran into Princess Diana during one of her spats with the Queen.
  4. The view from Mt Everest gave me the idea that I could fly.  I jumped and I did fly…for a while.
  5. Not everyone in the world is a selfish, sexist prick, but I have my doubts.
  6. When I make my famous blackberry and apply pie, the crusts are home-made too.
  7. I make oodles of cash writing short stories for free, online magazines.

Have fun with it! 🙂

  1. Pahahaha, awesome.

Yeah, I’m often at a loss when I get those things. I have a warm fuzzy for a minute, but then I get stumped trying to think of a bunch of bloggers I haven’t already aimed an award at, and then my warm fuzzy turns into an oh-no, and I cry.

Well, not really the cry part.

I broke the rules on my last one too.

    1. I suppose we could ignore them, but then that just seems mean. Folks don’t have to give these things to me. There are plenty of blogs out there to choose from, so I am grateful, but at the same time…15 other bloggers? It’s like a virtual pyramid scheme.

  2. The optimist in me smiled that you thought enough of my blog to nominate me for it. The cynic in me agrees with you that this is type of chain letter. At least it doesn’t claim that my eyes will fall out and ooze ectoplasm if I don’t pass it on 🙂

Thanks all the same, I hope you continue to enjoy my blog as much as I enjoy yours!
