Well, I’ve tried for the past two hours to write something but nothing is coming. I keep getting distracted, even with the Promodoro timer thingy!
So I gave up. Maybe I’ll get into the groove later today, but not now. So I played with my book cover again. No, this is not really gonna be my book cover. But, you know, I can fool around.
I like its simplicity. I know, I know, it should have a tag line. It should have a person’s face. It should have some awesome, super-duper artwork by this gal. (Sonia Verdu. Check her stuff out. It is mesmerizing. If I suddenly win the lottery, I’m hiring her.) But…you know, for now, this will do.
Here it is in puny size. Can you still read the font?
Too much text!!
You are just jealous that I have two titles instead of one. 😉
Yeah, I know. It’s a lot of text. But I wanted folks to know up front that this is the first of a series. Maybe, just Devil’s Blood, Book 1?
Sometimes simple is better. I like what you show. Maybe better without clutter like a face or some fancy artwork. Just my idea though.
Well, simple is better, if you can’t do great. I do think that impressive graphics (either a lot or little) help to sell a book, but when you can’t afford or don’t know how to come up with impressive graphics, I agree with you. Simple is better (than the crap I would come up with). 🙂
I do like the simplicity. In my opinion, 80% of the artwork on ebooks is wasted. I love the font, but you need a tad more contrast between the red and dark background.
How about a single, striking image? A stylized bat, maybe, or something medieval looking as if it was taken from an illuminated manuscript. Flash it right above your name. Make it pop.
Hey Jaye – I have tried to include some bat imagery, but my computer graphic skills are about nil, and I can’t get it to come out right. I have a very detailed image of what I want on the cover in my head and there’s NO WAY I could ever do it, so I thought, yeah, just red on black. Because, really, the only folks that’ll read this baby are my friends and family! 😀
I like it. Perhaps make the black a little more transparent? Also I agree that Lorena Libre, Fantasy Mystery Series, Book 1, should go… You can put it on the title page, perhaps?
If anything, Book 1 would suffice, I think.
Ok – no subtitle and a bit more transparency and lose the shadow on the letters – got it!
Thanks Learco. 🙂
