Writing Update #342568

A fish in the sky doesn't have to make sense

I am giving up.

There, I said it.  It’s out.  I don’t have to keep pushing myself to do something I don’t want to do!

Anyway, it turns out, I’m not ready.

So, I can release myself from looking for an agent.  I am giving up querying for representation.

No, no, you say, you have just begun!

Yes, yes, I answer, I know, but my story is, oh, how shall I describe it…confused.

There were a lot of story elements that I wanted to include in my first novel and it all just got jumbled up.  I do think it is a good story and I do enjoy writing about the characters, but it’s a mess at the moment.  I’ve decided to move to the second novel in the series and see how it goes.  Maybe with some time away from the initial part of the story and with some re-arranging along with additions from the second, we’ll see if it doesn’t come out a bit more coherent.

Yeah, I may end up re-writing the thing, but I always knew this was just practice anyway.  I’ll be setting up some new goals next month.  In the meantime, I’ve got a few manuscripts to read for all my writing buddies.  Maybe I can catch up now!

Happy Writing.

  1. I hear you. It’s tough out there. Editing and rewrites seem to be the bane of completing and publishing a novel. But they’ve gotta be done to get the best result.

I”m not even half done with my own novel. I had to gear myself toward just getting the chapters out and editing later on, because I would go back and start rewriting too much.
